Ok here is an example of how I go about my typical day regarding the Trucker Diet. I usually get up around 9:00 am I Load the truck, do my logbook,drive some, maybe do my Kettlebell Workout then I usually eat around 11:00 am. Whatever I feel like eating, This AM I had a Prime Rib Skillet, Coffee, Large Tomato Juice at Denny's in Ontario Oregon. I often stop and grab a large Coffee mixed with Cocoa at a truck stop as a snack during the day. Dinner or "Supper" as I like to say is usually between 5 pm and 6, Yesterday I ate dinner at the Flying J in La Grande Oregon, Prime Rib With Rice and Tortillas, Green Tea, and I was still hungry so I had a bowl of Chili with Onions Cheese and sour cream on top, Dessert was a Homemade Blueberry Cobbler Ala Mode Yum. It was around 6:00 pm when I finished and thats it! Im done for the day with food. I was full but not uncomfortably. I worked untill around 11:00 and went to bed(no crackers for snack because I wasnt hungry). this Am I got up around 9 am and had breakfast. So You do the Math. 6:00 pm until 9:00 Am = 15 hours without eating. No Hunger, No Pain, and I have been slowly but steadily losing weight doing this. This Diet works well for me while driving truck because I set my own schedule. It can get a little tougher when I go home and have to deal with other Families Schedule. (Pop Chris works graveyard) If you work swing or grave yard then just be sure not to eat right before bedtime (except for a piece of fruit) at least 12 hours from the time you hit the sack no food except for a couple crackers if you need to or a piece of fruit. Not sure why but I was really digging on Twinkies for lunch and Dark Chocolate with 2% milk for my afternoon meal. The beauty of this Trucker Diet is the emphasis is on when you eat not what!
I decided Yesterday was going to be Pizza Day so I went into Little Big Mens Pizza in Laurel Mt boy was I glad I did it was delicious they also have a salad bar. Soda with a splash of Tonic No Alcohol but pretty to look at. Just because I ate in the bar doesnt mean I drank Booze I love a good Soda water with a splash of Tonic and a Lime. A splash of Cranberry makes for a nice non alcohol treat too. right across the street from the suzuki dealer where I delivered was a cool little strip mall so I decided to do supper there! It was quite good though a little more expensive than what Im used to in Washington State around 40 bux for one Large Sushi Roll,soup, Salad, Green Tea and Coconut Vegetable Curry dish. I guess the distance from the ocean in billings may have something to do with that.
I woke up this am after a night of copious amounts of food and an ice cold beverage at Rays Golden Lion with my Lady Terrie, all before sunset of course, and im down to 309 whoo hoo! I think my nice little bike ride on my Bike Friday to the bank and the truck may have helped. At any rate what ever it takes, spring is here, so I should be able to get in my 3 days a week of 15 minutes with the Kettlebell or Bicycle! on a regular basis.
Of all the different types of "trucker food" the Buffet reigns supreme, of all the different types of Buffet style restaurants one of the healthiest is the Mongolian style Buffet. One of my favorite places to eat is in my home town Richland Wa it is Rays Golden Lion. It is a Lounge as well as a Chinese Mongolian Restaurant. The Owner Ray has had the place since like forever and his Son Stan runs the bar. I like the Bar they support a lot of local bands trying to get a start around the Tri Cities Wa, but the biggest reason I come to rays is the Mongolian Stir Fry. Actually to be exact the reason I come here is because Ray unlike the other guys around town Crushes his Garlic fresh. Fresh Garlic you might say thats it! Yep, I love loading up my plate with lots of Fresh Garlic and vegetables (I dont put any noodles or Rice with it) but for me the big thing that I notice is the super healthy fresh garlic. It is an excellent healthy trucker friendly food because it has loads of Heart Healthy nutrients, nutrients that only fresh chopped garlic can give, not the chopped (who knows how old) garlic out of a bottle like the other guys serve. So If you ever need some good healthy comfort food, find yourself a good Mongolian Style Buffet like Rays. B
My truck friendly workout equipment, Folding Bike and Kettlebell, low impact fitness for truckers3/22/2011 Spring has sprung and for the first time in quite a while the sun was shining so I decided to take a spin on my Folding Bicycle I purchased a couple years back from an outfit called "Bike Friday".http://www.bikefriday.com They make these bikes Custom for the individual you give them your measurements over the phone, mine was pretty heavy duty due to the fact that Im a Large Person. My bike is called a "Pocket Llama and it may look wimpy but it really takes the punishment (I dont Recommend taking jumps with it) and is made with top notch Components(I used to do some competitive bike racing when I was young). It cost me about 1400.00 bux but it is seriously one of the best bicycles I have ever owned folding or not.
One cool thing about my bike friday is that I can fit side bags on it so I can use it to carry stuff on or if I ever wanted to I could tour on it. It folds up small enough to fit into a medium suitcase. At any rate it doesnt matter if you choose to get a top of the line folding bicycle or just a cheap beach cruiser or for that matter just an indoor sit down exercise bike, Pedaling is really a great way to get your blood going using low impact fitness without damaging joints. Trust me at 300 plus pounds I could seriously hurt myself if I even tried to run around the block but I can (and do) ride my bike ten plus miles on a semi- regular basis. Dealing with Anxiety? I often drive between the coast and Boise Idaho, One town I like to stop in is Baker City Oregon at Mile Post 304 on I 90. The Baker Truck Coral has a nice restaurant if you like an excellent salad bar. I like a Salad for breakfast from time to time and they have their soup and salad bar up and running by 10:00 am. I also like the selection of different types of greens i.e. Romain,spinach leaves, as well as ice berg. One of my pet peeves is a restaurant with only ice berg lettuce in the salad bar.
Why not try a salad for breakfast! I really like stoping at exit 109 on I90 at hwy 200 junction in Montana and eating at the River City Grill! It is across the parking lot from the truck stop. The Benefits of being completely without a single thing you "Have" to do is amazing. I walked everywhere and got tons of sun and got to do some snorkeling in the beautiful waters off the coast of San Pedro. I have continued to benefit from the experience by using the change in Pace to jumpstart my new Healthy or I should say "Healthier" Lifestyle that I continue to practice out here on the road and write about on this website. Sometimes quitting or taking a leave of absence is the only solution to elicit the "Change" in Mindset and Lifestyle that you are going to have to make to get healthy! Whatever it takes driver, find the courage to do what you need to do to get healthy. After all this is your Life so make it a Healthy one..B
I got home yesterday from a long painful week on the road,( I strained my ankle and the thing is amazingly painful its all I can do to hobble around finding my cars.) So I pulled out the scale to weigh myself I am finally below the 311 mark I am now at 310 lbs Yay! Terrie said "you need to start doing something different you arent losing enough weight" I disagree, after watching myself over the last 6 years do nothing but gain weight it is absolutely refreshing to be moving down instead of up! Keep in mind that I am not "dieting" I almost never experiencing hunger, and I still eat a lot of food during the day! In fact yesterday we went to Rays Mongolian and had all you can eat Mongolian Yummm! One thing I didnt do, is add Rice and Noodles! Just lots of nutritious veggies, chicken, pork and tons of shredded Garlic it tasted just as good without the extra Carbs, and I still walked out of the restaurant completely stuffed. I also pricked my finger this morning to check my blood sugar level and it was a 114 reading which means I am still Pre-diabetic. hopefully this will change as I continue to lose weight.
my Mom passed our friends recipe for a cure for a cough to me, our friend Sally is a world renowned Chef and all around wise Lady so I thought I would pass it along.....: "Carefully mix ¼ cup cinnamon into ¼ cup of unpasteurized organic honey.
Take 1 heaping Tbsp of mixture and add to 6 ounces of boiling hot water with the juice of ½ lemon. Stir well until honey is dissolved and the cinnamon is mixed throughout. Drink while hot. Be careful to stir it well before taking a sip or the consequences may not be as promised. " Yesterday at around 5:30 went to Sushi and a Movie with the family, We really ate what seemed like a lot of food, walked out quite full then it was to the movie theater for "Unknown" no soda no popcorn just watching a good movie with Liam Neesan in it. I was proud of myself for not snacking. (Thx Tweet for being strong for me) Anyway Im down to 311 again so I can definitely say this life style change is working for me I may not be losing a ton of weight at the moment, but I am not putting it back on either!
I got home yesterday around 4 pm grabbed my Girl Terrie and headed 40 miles down the road to all you can eat seafood at the Indian Casino. I thought we would be able to eat when we arrived but that was not to be. I guess everyone else in the area all decided to have all you can eat seafood too! They gave us a beeper and told us it would be "about an hour", at 8 pm we finally got paged. So much for not eating after 6 pm. We loved the food though and must have eaten five pounds of Dungeness Crab each, I weighed in at 315 lbs this am, so I am basically just maintaining my weight. It sure beats the heck out of gaining though and keep in mind I have already lost 40+ lbs, Also I must say the weather has been horrible snow, Ice, and Rain, so I havent been able to do my Kettlebell workout except for once in the entire week! B
