I'm blown away by the the value in dinning I've been finding at truck stop restaurants and deli's. One of the best deals I've found for a soup and salad bar is at the Cascade Grill at Jubitz Truck Stop in Portland Oregon. $8.50 for an all you can eat soup and salad bar. Including whole, pickled Peperoncini ,(not sliced) so when you bite into them they explode like pickled pepper bombs. This salad bar also has fresh cut carrots, celery three different kinds of leafy greens including fresh spinach, they also have Artichoke hearts, black olives and even cottage cheese. And with a price tag of $8.50 + my drink, I could afford to leave a nice tip for the friendly server that brought me my iced tea. I could keep going but I'm not going to spoil the plot. Stop in and check it out for yourself.
I have to give Flying J in Caldwell Idaho credit for doing a good job with their deli. I had just finished getting my fuel reciept and decided to order a broasted chicken for just under ten bux which comes with two sides out of the hot case. I'm trying to stay away from starchy foods. All the sides in the hot case were loaded with starch. Food like corn on the cob, mac with cheese, rice, deep fried spring rolls and wantons, (you get the picture). I was just about to leave hungry, when the lady behind the counter said, "you can also pick your two sides from the cold case down below." Boy did that open up the possibilities (and my eyes). For less than $10.00 I got half a chicken with gravy, a large green and crisp chef salad, and a big container of cool and firm grapes. Yeah, a delicious healthy meal at a truck stop for less than ten dollars. Will miracles never cease?
So next time you're driving by Caldwell Idaho driver and you're feeling hungry for a filling AND low carb meal check out the Flying J. I think it's exit 29 on I-84.
Been trucking since 96. My main interest is having a good healthy life.
